Three former students from the Scientific Student Circle of Semmelweis University have won Pro Scientia Gold Medals for their excellent scientific work in the Department of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Lily Zaraz, Dr. Dorothea Viso and Dr. Gabor Urban. Two supervisors and mentors, Dr. Andrea Sikely and Dr. Agnes Mayer received the Teacher’s Gold Medal in recognition of her achievements in youth education. The awards were presented at the National Academic Student Council’s ceremonial meeting in the Great Hall of the Academy of Music.
University students who place first at the National Student Science Congress (OTDK) can apply for the Pro Scientia Gold Medal Award. When awarding the award, the Committee takes into account the applicant’s participation in domestic and foreign conferences, scientific publications, university exhibitions and other scientific and volunteer activities related to TDK, and previously awarded awards and scholarships. Established in 1988 by the OTDT, the awards are awarded every two years to a maximum of five people per discipline.
Professor Dr. Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, emphasized that over the decades, scientific student groups have ensured stability, professionalism, and master-student relationship. Besides the award-winning students, mentors and supervisors were also honored with gold medals and certificates. The President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences thanked the lecturers and mentors for their work to renew Hungarian science.
Based on the decision of the Professional Committee of OTDT, the master teacher can receive a gold medal and certificate in 2023:
- doctor. Agnes Mayer, Associate Professor in the College of Health Sciences,
At the suggestion of the OTDT Board of Directors, a master teacher can receive a gold medal:
- doctor. Andrea Szekely, University Professor at the Faculty of General Medicine (ÁOK).
The Gold Medal and Diploma Pro Scientia were awarded to three student scientific researchers from Semmelweis University at the Department of Medicine and Health Sciences:
- doctor. Lily Zaraz (prepared her thesis OTDK at the Department of Nuclear Medicine),
- doctor. Dorotea Viso (did OTDK work in a pulmonology clinic),
- doctor. Gabor Orban (prepared his work OTDK at the Cardiovascular Clinic in Varosmagor).
The awards were presented at the closing ceremony of the 36th National Scientific Conference to students at the Academy of Music. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the 37th National Scientific Student Conference was announced, which will be held in 2025.
