Brad Pitt sues Angelina Jolie for selling her share of a joint vineyard to a Russian oligarch

Brad Pitt sues Angelina Jolie for selling her share of a joint vineyard to a Russian oligarch

The actor said his ex-wife “wanted to hurt him” because Jolie’s decision forced him to associate with a “stranger with toxic connections and intentions.”

Jolie and Pitt were not yet married when in 2008 they bought a majority stake in Chateau Miraval SA, a French company that includes a home and vineyard in southern France. The actor married six years later, and Pete says they agreed not to sell their stake without the other’s permission. However, Pitt now says Jolie sold her stake without permission to a spirits producer in Luxembourg headed by Russian oligarch Yuri Scheffler.

According to papers filed by Pitt, Jolie “attempted to cause harm” through the sale because newspapers said Schaeffler had “earned a reputation in questionable professional associations” and that the relationship with him “threatens the reputation of the brand that Pitt has so carefully built.”

The couple bought the Miraval property for 25 million euros, of which Pete paid 60 percent and Jolie paid the remaining 40 percent.

According to Pitt’s attorney, Jolie “despite benefiting from the success of Maraval,” she did not participate in the work to keep the business running smoothly.

Angelina Jolie has not commented on this issue yet. (BBC)
