Red Bull’s classic Max Verstappen took pole again, but there was no shortage of surprises in qualifying for the British Grand Prix: the second fastest lap run by Lando Norris, and the third by teammate Oscar Piastri. Let’s see how the three rated themselves after nodding!
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 1st
“It was a crazy time trial! It was very hectic, the track was very slippery in some parts, but we managed to hold the laps together. I was surprised to have McLaren with me here – it’s a great result for them. I’m glad they did well and I’m also happy with my results In Q1 and Q2 you had to be careful because there were still wet patches on the track. But we knew the car was fast, so we didn’t have to go over the limit, and in Q3, when the track was better, it could have gone faster. But I didn’t have a huge advantage over McLaren. But it’s still a good day, and I’m looking forward to the race.”
Lando Norris (McLaren) – 2nd
“It was so close…Thank you all! We were close in Q1 and Q2 and at the end I was two-tenths off the fastest lap. My final nail went really well. I heard Zak (Brown) on the first lap – it was really good! 2nd and 3rd Great result for the whole team. Max always spoils everything! I’m so happy and very grateful to the fans. It’s a special day, I’m really looking forward to the race. We worked hard… This is my home race and the team too. Our drawing is special too. But Max is there again. ..but thanks everyone anyway!”
Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 3rd
“What a time it was! I almost crashed in Q1, but in Q2 and Q3 I managed to put together good laps, the car was a real spaceship out there. It’s a great result for the team that we’re here in TOP3. We’re trying to stay here tomorrow. We had a tough day.” Very yesterday. We were faster than it looks, but we struggled with the settings. Today, we worked better from that point of view and adapted well to the conditions. We’ve already had similar moments in the season, but the fact that Q3 turned out like this is quite an achievement! On upgrades, which is a big thing – we can’t thank the team enough. We’ve taken a huge step in the right direction if you look at where we are now and where we were at the beginning of the year.”
