So far, it's clear that 2024 is the year of the Brits in terms of Netflix viewing.
In 2024, the four most-watched shows on Netflix were produced in the UK. The streaming service's CEO, Ted Sarandos, announced the data at an event in London.
Episodes of Nem versz ás, The Bridgerton Family, Gentlemen, and Baby Deer were watched 360 million times by users in the first half of 2024.
The exact numbers will be included in Netflix's next big data repository, which will be released later this week and will include statistics for the first six months of the year.
Success is due to this
In August, research by British Digital found that American audiences have preferred British content since last year's writers and actors strike.
Viewing of British shows and films on Netflix and Prime Video jumped 40% between the second quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of this year.
In May 2023 The Writers Guild of America unanimously decided to strike after failing to reach an agreement with movie studios and streaming services. Two months later, actors also joined the movement, citing concerns about pay cuts and the rise of artificial intelligence. In Hollywood, filmmakers finally reached a deal with studios last September.
Due to the strikes, the premieres of many films were missed or postponed, and the release dates of many series on streaming services were delayed.
