Our computer components have been infected with a virus, but it is our responsibility to get rid of it through old games. the Bullet byte A nostalgic return to the world of classic games.
the Bullet byte The protagonist is Esteban Marin, who is also the creator of our skill action game, and the story, set in the 1980s and 1990s, seems to start off similarly to the earlier days. But the programmer turns on his computer and notices that viruses have invaded his memory. Fortunately, he put a floppy disk in his locker, keeping it just in case because it contained special anti-virus software. After placing the disc in the drive, we will be the ones who have to remove the main hardware components of the device, such as the memory, video card, motherboard, processor, and sound card. Meanwhile, the most popular video games of the era, from Tetris to Prince of Persia to the original Doom, are lined up in front of us, so much so that viruses themselves have become intertwined in these applications.
Our controllable character is a human wearing a space suit and holding a giant stick in his hand. Aside from being able to run and shoot with him, he has almost no special abilities, except that he can double jump or dash. In linear courses, you can get 0 and 1, and by getting the latter you can jump again before reaching the ground, this is often useful when exploring secret corners. In these areas, you can obtain additional lives, bytes or even equipment (e.g. faster shooting, temporary invincibility, etc.), which you can obtain in particularly good numbers and set to use them right before the start of the levels (maximum of 3 per same time). But after starting the levels, we cannot use them immediately, as we have to collect bytes in return, through which our talents are activated after a certain amount.
In terms of its structure, Byte The Bullet is mainly inspired by the original Mario and Castlevania games, but at the same time, due to its video game nods, a fair number of “forgotten” titles, such as – of course without claiming to be complete – also appear Cat, Pac-Man, Street Fighter, or the occasional Exolon. It is especially interesting that at the end of themed levels you can get themed items, which you can use when starting all your quests. Musically, catchy chiptune music plays to our ears, just like the genre we were used to 30-40 years ago.
As I mentioned in the intro, Byte The Bullet is a nostalgic throwback to a truly great era of video games. In detail, the one I stumbled upon over 40 years ago. It has countless winks and is full of fun, as far as one of the most popular Battle Royale games of recent times is concerned, deftly maneuvering between older titles while bringing some new colors to the platforming genre.
