Activision Blizzard King needs to do something, because from a certain point of view, Call of Duty is a street away from other live service games.
While the game is embroiled in the Nickmercs scandal which is similar to a racist term in its English pronunciation (skins removed), the franchise offers both paid games and free-to-play solutions. However, it doesn’t matter if the games are developed by Treyarch, Sledgehammer, Infinity Ward, or Call of Duty: Warzone, which (also) are developed by Raven Software, they all have flaws, because we don’t see user content in them. The series entered the live-service approach four years ago with 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and since then there have been free-to-play levels and game modes in exchange for paid cosmetic items.
However, there is no way to use another player’s turn. Meanwhile, thanks to Fortnite Creative and Epic Games, for example, game modes like Among Us or Call of Duty-like tracks are being moved from Zombies mode to Battle Royale. Electronic Arts is also trying to do something like this, which is why Battlefield can be considered a direct competitor to CoD. Although Battlefield 2042 was released with bugs and in a questionable state of design, users quickly fell in love with Battlefield Portal, because the content of old parts can be accessed here, and the most creative minds have been able to create obstacle courses or even bunkers. Halo Infinite and Forge mode can bring similar interesting things together.
These are just a few examples that can be given. On the other hand, Activision Blizzard King simply wiped the small fan content collected by users from the Internet (just think of the fan remaster in Call of Dutty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer in 2009), which may not be the right way. And the fact that the Call of Duty: Black Ops III mod, which protects players from PC hackers, has also been removed by publisher Bobby Kotick, we can’t comment in a tasteful manner.
It has to be said: Activision Blizzard King is a narrow scope (because Overwatch 2 is similarly limited…).
