Canada Soccer has announced an investment of $1,267,860 in programming to provide more Canadians with opportunities to experience the transformative power of sport. Canada Soccer's new programming is made possible through the Canadian government Community sports for all An initiative supported by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Activity.
“We are focused on delivering tangible programs that support future generations of players through the transformative power of soccer across Canada,” he said. In part, today's announcement will support the development of two new initiatives: Canadian Football in Schools and Canadian Football's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA).
Canada Football Scholarships were launched earlier this year for Free Kicks – Try it Events (Application deadline is February 14) It will help reduce barriers for all new participants in Canada while also promoting integration into organized events hosted by the club.
Canada Soccer Schools
Canada Soccer will provide schools with enhanced tools and instruction to deliver an outstanding in-school soccer experience for all. The project aims to reach a wider audience through the public school system, and provide opportunities for everyone to participate in football. Canada Soccer will work with community clubs from Saskatchewan and Ontario in the first phase of this project. The Schools Football Scholarships will be available from 1 March 2024
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Learning (IDEA).
Canada Soccer has developed a comprehensive coaching initiative to promote an inclusive and fair environment within the Canadian soccer landscape. This project aims to create a positive and respectful football community that embraces diversity by addressing implicit biases, breaking down barriers, and encouraging cultural understanding. Training topics include cultural awareness, LGBTQ+ inclusion, newcomer to Canada, anti-racism, and modified soccer.
As part of IDEA's synchronous and asynchronous training opportunities, Canada Soccer hosted the LGBTQ+ Inclusion and New to Canada Conference in December 2023, which is open to participants across the country. In March 2024, the second IDEA Day will be held, focusing on women and girls.
The upcoming IDEA training days will include asynchronous training and four e-learning modules that will provide community club leaders with the resources and tools needed to implement IDEA programs.
