In the first set, the North American team had an irreplaceable advantage over the Italians before the doubles fight thanks to the success of US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and US Open runner-up Leila Fernandez, and then also won it.
The European team also lost to Switzerland on Wednesday, farewell to the Scotland match without a win. In the second group, Australia won for the second time, to qualify for the semi-finals, while Belgium lost for the second time and was eliminated.
In the final tournament of the Team Competition, which will be renamed from the Fed Cup in 2020, 12 teams will compete in four triples to reach the semi-finals, where the winners from the groups will face off at the 8,200-seat Emirates Arena.
