Canada sweeps the podium in the snowboarding race – Team Canada

In what has already been a dominant season for women's ski cross, Canadian skiers delivered a historic performance Saturday in Vesonnaz, Switzerland at the FIS Ski Cross World Cup.

Marielle Thompson (gold), Brittany Phelan (silver) and India Sherritt (bronze) swept the podium in the second-to-last World Cup event of the 2023-24 season.

It's only the second time Canadian women have swept the podium at a World Cup in skiing, and the first time in 13 years.

For Thompson, it's about the same brilliance on the slopes: she has now won five World Cup golds this season and holds a 72-point lead over France's Marielle Berger Sabatiel for first place in the World Cup season standings.

“I was never part of a podium campaign,” Thompson told Alpine Canada. “I knew we had some good odds with the three of us in the grand final and to share the podium with these two girls is absolutely fantastic.”

Phelan, who won silver, is also having the best season of her career. Saturday's silver was her fourth of the season and sixth podium finish overall. It occupies third place in the FIS standings, 86 points behind Berger Sabatiel.

India Sherritt has now two podium finishes this season with a bronze medal on Saturday.

Canadians Tiana Jairns and Abby McEwen also made the top ten.

Team Canada's skiers will compete for places as the World Cup season concludes with two races in Edri Fjall, Sweden, next week.
