Canada's men's team will face two World Cup-winning teams next June.
Canada will face 2018 World Cup champion France in a friendly match before its first appearance in the Copa America, Canada Football announced on Tuesday.
The match will be played in Bordeaux on June 9, more than a week before Canada – ranked 49th in the world according to FIFA – takes on the defending World Cup champions, Argentina, in the opening match of the 2024 Copa America on June 20.
Canada Football's Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Chamberland, He said“Playing against the best teams in the world, such as the French national team, will continue our growth as a football nation. We want to strengthen our cultural, historical and sporting relationship with France and this is another step forward.”
The friendly match also serves as a warm-up match for the French national team, as France prepares for its opening match of Euro 2024 against Austria on 17 June.
This will be Canada's second meeting with France. France beat Canada 1-0 in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
The Canadians will also play a friendly match against the Netherlands on June 6 in Rotterdam.
