Future technology pioneers are still in school today

For the third time, a Girls' Day Festival is organized for hundreds of primary and secondary school girls, which will be held in October at the Lordi Convention and Event Center in Budapest. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the role of women in STEM fields and to inspire young girls to boldly enter these fields. According to the association’s statement, this year’s program celebrates future female pioneers, who in the coming years will play a decisive role in shaping, developing and improving the turbulent world around us.

Dr. Katalin Palazzi, President of the Association for Women in Science, said:

Many future STEM professionals are still students today, but they will be the ones who will shape the world.

She added: “This festival is important because it signals that careers in STEM are so beautiful and exciting – we want to make sure that young girls also notice the huge potential inherent in this.”

What is the situation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) internationally?

Global technology companies such as Google, Microsoft and Tesla are increasingly focusing on attracting more women into technology and engineering roles. One of the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations is to significantly increase the proportion of women in research and technology positions by 2030.

Unfortunately, the statistics are still alarming: according to the World Economic Forum's 2023 report, the gender gap in the Union is still large, as

Nearly 19 percent of ICT experts and only one-third of STEM graduates are women.

This gender gap in STEM fields is a serious problem, but it also represents a huge opportunity for women.
