According to a statement posted on the official website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Fang Jie said: China is monitoring the situation in Ukraine.
He stressed that Beijing has maintained a consistent position on the Ukraine issue that the legitimate security concerns of any country should be respected and in accordance with the guidelines and principles of the United Nations Charter.
The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the situation in Ukraine so far is closely related to the delay in the effective implementation of the Minsk Agreement. China will continue to consult with all parties in line with the developments, adding that the deteriorating situation needs to be mitigated through dialogue and negotiations.
The two foreign ministers also agreed on the Korean Peninsula. Fang pointed out that the issue of the United States and North Korea is the core of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. He stressed that Washington needs to take into account Pyongyang’s legitimate concerns and take substantive action. Fang said China supports direct dialogue between the two sides and will continue to play a constructive role in resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
According to an earlier Foreign Ministry statement, Fang and Blinken talked about developments in Sino-US relations and the Taiwan issue, among other things.
