China says Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States are on a dangerous path
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday that because of their “geopolitical selfish endeavors”, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, ignoring the concerns of the international community, have embarked on a dangerous path. Spokesman Wang Wen-bin announced at a regular press conference when asked about Beijing’s assessment of the United States, Britain and Australia’s plans to provide Australia with the latest nuclear-powered attack submarines.
Regarding the possible meeting between President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, the spokesperson only reported that China and the United States will maintain “necessary communication” on the matter. As he says:
We are convinced that the value and importance of communication is provided not only by the fact of communication itself, but also by the fact that it enhances understanding and helps smooth out differences.
President Joe Biden told reporters after meeting British Prime Minister Rishi Sun in San Diego that he was not worried the submarine deal would be seen as an aggressive move in China. When asked if he would meet Hezi soon, he said, “Yes.” When asked if he would reveal when, he replied, “No.”
Joe Biden, Australian Anthony Albanese and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met in Southern California in the defense cooperation framework established in 2021, called AUKUS.
An Australian defense official said, on Tuesday, that the Australian nuclear submarine investment could reach $245 billion over the next three decades, and create about 20,000 jobs.
