Kristof Rasovsky won a gold medal on Saturday in the second leg of the Open Water Swimming World Cup in Italy.
The Hungarian Olympic silver medalist – who finished fourth in the opening race of the World Cup in Egypt two weeks ago – has confidently won the 10km race. He was in the lead for the entire last quarter of the six-lap race, and they couldn’t pressure him even in the heat.
The excelling folks from Veszprém – who won the series last year in a tie with the superstar of the Italians, Gregorio Paltrineri – reached the finish line with an impressive run of 1:47:17.6 hours.
“Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for the good things, but we finally got it right again – said Kristof Rasovszky after the competition. – It wasn’t an easy ride, when we went out for a refresh at the end of the second lap, one of the Italians stopped me seriously, and I lost twenty meters or so. Then the fourth course turned out to be particularly slow, and I wasn’t too happy about that, because there were quite a few guys in the chasing group who weren’t bad swimmers. That’s why I strengthened in the last lap, we were six in front, but the finish was already approaching me, already in Egypt I felt that I was the fastest at the end and, in addition, I started on time. “
Now that he has finished his college homework for the last months, Rasovsky added, he can finally focus solely on swimming.
In Saturday’s competitions, Domenico Asirenza, who played in front of the local audience, finished second, while Germany’s Oliver Klimt came in third.
Another Hungarian participant in the race, David Bethlehem, crossed the finish line in fifth place (1:47:23.7), leaving Paltrinier far behind.
VK’s series of five dream races continues next weekend in Portugal.
