Kometa has fulfilled its obligations, and thus the previous action of the Economic Competition Authority (GVH), through which the meat company’s communication campaigns were investigated, has become effective – the Competition Authority informed MTI on Thursday, based on the results of its follow-up investigation.
According to the GVH announcement, the original investigation evaluated commercial campaigns for Kometa 99 Élélmiszeripari Zrt, based on two slogans. The measure also extended to the possibility of providing misleading data indicating the effect of some of the company’s products on health. Kometa made a commitment during the procedure, which was accepted by the GVH Competition Board.
The company pledged to launch a communication campaign to increase consumer awareness on the issue of nutritional needs and food choices, and to create a website that provides information about the differences between the nutritional needs of individual consumer groups. The company also pledged to develop its internal compliance program.
The Competition Office confirmed that the fulfillment of obligations is being investigated in all cases. During the follow-up investigation that has just concluded, it was established that Kometa had fulfilled all its obligations, and that the original action was therefore successful. At the same time, the company delivered the compliance program later than it had promised, and therefore it was not possible to fully determine adequate performance – the National Competition Authority noted.
