Debrecen – Large-scale international competition has begun in our city.
308 young musicians from 56 countries on five continents participated in the competition, organized by the Kodaly Philharmonic Orchestra of Debrecen and GM Hungary, from 20 to 28 August. To the 2nd Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition between
As part of the Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition, which is being held for the second time, the unusually young conductors will perform not only orchestral pieces, but also several oratorio pieces. One of the main reasons for this is that the 100th anniversary of the Kodály Philharmonic this year coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Psalm, and on this occasion the orchestra’s long-standing wish will be fulfilled: to organize a conducting competition in Debrecen.
Applicants – who include conductors from Venezuela, Morocco, Estonia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and New Zealand – took part in a video pre-selection before the three-round competition to see who would be invited to the live competition. Based on the decision of the preliminary jury, 38 contestants can finally start the competition, including six Hungarian participants.
The seven-member international jury is chaired by the true legend, Jorma Pagnola, 92 years old. Jury members: János Ax (Italy/Hungary), Peter Broadbent (United Kingdom), Remy Frank (Luxembourg), Zsolt Hamar (Hungary), Oksana Madarasz (Ukraine), Daniel Somogyi Toth (Hungary).
The free competition rounds will be held in the Great Hall of the Kolsi Center, and the final event of the competition (awards ceremony and concert) will be held in the Kolsi Center on August 28, which costs 500 HUF. Registration tickets can be purchased from kodalyfilharmonia.jegy.hu.
