Hungarian animal protection has reached its age limit
“It is no exaggeration to say that animal protection in Hungary has reached its minimum age in the past few months. A ministerial commissioner in charge of the region has been appointed, a national consultation has been conducted, the National Council for Animal Welfare and the Knowledge Center responsible for animal welfare education and research have been established, and the Center Animal Welfare ÁTE. It is our shared mission and responsibility to maintain the growing interest in the topic and take action that animal lovers have long been waiting for,” said Szilvia Vetter, Event Director and Head of Animal Welfare. at the University of Veterinary Medicine.
In his opening speech, Peter Suttony, President of the University of Veterinary Medicine, emphasized that the University of Veterinary Medicine is one of the oldest veterinary training institutions in Europe,
The history of the university coincides with the history of animal protection in Hungary.
Hungarian ancestors of veterinarians played a leading role in the first animal protection societies, and their high level of knowledge and therapeutic activity is still indispensable in animal protection. With the establishment of the Animal Welfare Center this year, the university has believed – many times – in a science-based love of animals, the principles of closeness to nature and ethical existence.
In his greeting, the Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy emphasized: The government and the Ministry of Agriculture aim to use all available means to promote the improvement of animal welfare and the dissemination of responsible animal husbandry among the citizens. It is in this spirit, he added, that an online social dialogue on animal welfare was launched earlier this year, with more than a quarter of a million people expressing their opinions on the subject.
Government support for animal NGOs
Taking into account the social needs arising from the answers, the government supports the work of 67 animal protection NGOs with an amount of HUF 141 million, the National Council for Animal Protection was established in the spring, and as before, we will continue to crack down on animal executioners and organizers of illegal animal fights legitimate, on the contrary, too. The Minister reminded us that animal protection is a common cause for all of us!
In his presentation, Peter Ovade, Ministerial Commissioner for the Renewal and Implementation of the National Animal Welfare Program, quoted Count Stefan Bethlin as saying that “Nothing in the world goes by itself. Only those who have never created anything believe in this.” In light of these ideas animal welfare commissioner
He emphasized that although there is a lot of work to be done, the government is working to create a European-level domestic animal welfare system that future generations will be proud of.
In his presentation, he praised the animal NGOs that work conscientiously to protect animals in the spirit of love and responsibility towards them. The Ministerial Commissioner expressed his hope that a number of similar high-quality professional meetings would serve and support the noble cause of animal welfare.
In his presentation, Robert Vibrick, president of the newly formed National Animal Welfare Board, said more and more people are becoming more and more interested in animal protection and what can be done for the animals around us. A feature of the age group from 14 to 30 years is that it stands full chest wide with a dog, an animal accompanied by a beating or torture, or a wild animal poisoned by a bullet. Everyone who wants to do this in order to protect the animal has taken on a difficult task that requires serious educational work and the formation of attitudes.
Present and future generations must be taught fair humane treatment of animals. The National Animal Welfare Board, and various educational institutions play a major role in this work, and social animal welfare institutions have a major role to play.
The conference included the prize distribution ceremony for the “Animal Care Kindergarten 2021” competition organized by the editorial board of “Animal Protection for Children” which was established with the professional support of the Animal Welfare Center TE. The diploma of the first three winners and the special award were handed over by Rector Peter Suttony. The first call for proposals received 81 entries from across the country. It was a surprise that due to the high level of requests received, all advanced nurseries were given the title of “Animal Nursery”, which can be used for one year this year.
Contest winners will be presented in a separate announcement.
A cooperation agreement was also signed
In this event, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Civil Way Foundation and the University of Veterinary Medicine. Board member Andrea Golias, who represents the foundation, said the collaboration would strengthen the relationship between the two organizations;
From a science standpoint, the university supports Civic Path efforts to establish a dialogue between community and professional organizations and decision-makers regarding animal protection.
Andrea Golias also reminded that the goal of the Civic Way Foundation is to promote individual and social responsibility.
