Copa America: Argentina win with confidence without Messi – Videos

Defending champions Argentina played as a sure-fire lead in their final group game against Peru. Without Lionel Messi, Argentina had no trouble against Peru. Lautaro Martinez put them ahead from Angel Di Maria's pass in the 47th minute. The final scoreline of 2-0 was set up by the 26-year-old Inter striker, who fought for the ball, then lifted it over the goalkeeper and doubled the lead in the 86th minute.

The Argentines even missed a penalty kick through Leandro Paredes, but it was also a goal. The defending champions reached the quarter-finals with three wins without conceding a goal, while Peru came away with one point without scoring a goal.

Before the round, Canada finished the group stage with three points, ahead of Chile with one, so both teams had a chance to advance. The Chileans found themselves in a difficult position as Gabriel Suazo picked up two yellow cards in less than half an hour, leaving them with a minus point.

However, the match was balanced and both teams had chances but no goals were scored. Canada finished second in the group with four points and advanced to the top eight. Chile scored only one goal and two points in three matches, which did not qualify them.

The Canadians will play for first place in Group B, while the Argentines will play for second place in Group B among the top eight.
