Could another package of sanctions come against Russia?  The European Union will negotiate on Monday

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said during her visit to Kyiv on Friday that the European Union had already imposed severe sanctions on Russia, He is now working on preparing the sixth package of sanctions.

The European Union adopted a fifth package of sanctions against Russia on Friday In response to the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and the atrocities committed by the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.

  • The sanctions package imposes an EU ban on imports of coal and other solid fossil fuels from Russia, as well as products such as wood, cement, fertilizers and some luxury goods, among others.
  • It is prohibited to register ships flying the Russian flag in the ports of the European Union.
  • It imposes a general ban on Russian companies in public procurement in EU member states and a total ban on transactions for four large Russian banks.
  • It also imposed sanctions on oligarchs, businessmen, senior Russian parliamentary officials, and disinformation spreaders and supporters.

EU foreign ministers are expected to agree to release another 500 million euros in EU arms aid to Ukraine on Monday.

Besides discussing developments in Russian aggression against Ukraine, Ministers will review recent developments and current affairs, including in Mali, Libya and Yemen, on the basis of Council briefs.

This will be followed by an exchange of views on a new European strategy called the Global Gateway, which aims to promote smart, clean and secure communications around the world in the digital, energy and transport sectors, and to strengthen health, education and research systems around the world.

The EU Council said the ministers would hold an informal meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Anneken Hoetfeldt and Icelandic Foreign Minister Thordis Kolbrun Rijkfjord Gilvadottir over a working lunch.
