Police in the US state of Ohio today released security camera footage of the officer who shot and killed a pregnant black woman last week. The policeman repeatedly asked the woman suspected of the robbery to stop her car and get out. On the other hand, Takea Young accelerated.
The victim’s family condemned the police intervention, describing it as a “gross abuse of power”.
The incident between Young, 21, and police took place on August 24 outside a grocery store in suburban Columbus. The police asked the woman to get out of the car because the store owner had accused her of theft. However, I refused this. After he drove away, one of the officers fired a bullet at the windshield of his car, which is not shown in the video. The video ends with a car with a lifeless woman behind the wheel crashing into a shop wall.

Relatives complained that the video was not released until more than a week after the incident. Police say they were required by Ohio law to obscure the faces and ID numbers of the responding officers in the video. Authorities are investigating the shooting, and the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
