While game publisher Take-Two has already announced the long-awaited game from Rockstar Games, there is another platform that could be important for the publisher hoping to make a lot of money.
A Brazilian-born insider of highly questionable credibility, NecroLipe, tweeted about how much he would like to see Bully and Grand Theft Auto V in a future Nintendo Direct. To this, he received the answer that we will not see GTA V, which was first released in 2013, on the Nintendo Switch, but only on its successor that has yet to be introduced and, according to rumors, has been delayed again (and has yet to be publicly christened), because although the devices will be capable of a port, he says that Rockstar and Take-Two are unwilling to port unless they can also run Grand Theft Auto Online on the Big N’s next-gen hardware. NecroLipe responded by saying that Grand Theft Auto VI will focus directly on the Nintendo Switch 2 (which, by definition, cannot be considered an official name).
It's worth noting that the Rage Engine has already been ported to Arm-based hardware. It was also used in Red Dead Redemption, and has finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch lineup. This opens up the possibility that the Switch or its successor could also get other games running on this engine. Rockstar has officially confirmed that there will be an enhanced version for the Xbox Series S, so they're trying to show off the proper performance and accuracy even on the weaker console…
So the Nintendo Switch 2 may still be important to Rockstar and Take-Two, although we've already heard that the Japanese company's new console lags even behind the Xbox Series S in terms of performance, so it won't be an easy task for Rovkstar if it really plans to port Grand Theft Auto VI.
All this is not official yet.
