Honda caused a huge surprise at the Japanese Mobility Expo last year when it revealed the Prelude concept. Almost no technical data was published at that time, so it quickly spread in the world press that the newest model would be purely electric. This was later denied by Honda itself, and it was confirmed that it would be available as a hybrid – including in Europe. Little more has been known since then, but according to Japanese media reports, the brand will also produce the coupe with a six-speed manual transmission.
According to unconfirmed information, the Prelude may be based on the Civic's floorboard. The latter is available as a four- and five-door version, but the coupe only comes as a two-door. According to the information of the best Japanese car, the CVT gearbox is already confirmed, but if Honda will also produce the model with a manual, this could be its first full hybrid model after the CR-Z, in which there is also a clutch pedal. The heart of the powertrain could be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, complemented by two electric motors, similar to the Civic e:HEV models.
