Technology News – Based on the leaked information, some assume that a portable version of the PlayStation 6 may also be manufactured…
According to a recent leak, the next PlayStation console may already be in development – and hopefully, it will be a lot cheaper than previously thought. This news comes from a popular leaker who goes by the name 'Kelper', who recently posted some information about Sony's PlayStation 6 plans on a NeoGAF thread.
The leak was then compiled and confirmed by another poster, HeisenbergFX4, in a separate thread detailing Kelper's comments.
According to Keller “There are two SoCs in development for next-gen, I don't know if it's a Series
They also added to this comment by clarifying that “the two SoCs I mentioned in this thread were made for the PS6.”
Well, in case you don't understand all the terminology used here, “SoC” stands for “system on a chip.” A SoC is basically a circuit that contains most of the components a modern electronic system needs, such as the graphics processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU), and random access memory (RAM).
For home consoles, these SoCs are always specially designed. In the case of the PlayStation 5, for example, the SoC was custom-made by both AMD and Sony.
Why is Sony developing two SoCs at the same time? There are many theories, but it's possible that Kelper hit the spot with the Series X/S comparison. Sony will likely develop two different PS6 consoles at the same time, one less powerful but less expensive, and one better but obviously more expensive.
Alternatively, some commenters on the NeoGAF thread suggested that this could mean a portable console version of the PlayStation 6 could be in the works. This would explain why one SoC is cheaper. After all, Sony will no doubt charge more for the console version than for the handheld.
Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see what announcements Sony has in store for us. But considering that nearly three years passed between the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro and the announcement of the PlayStation 5… we'll probably have to wait a little longer.
