Maple syrup, i.e. maple sugar, a natural caramel-flavored sweetener made from red or black maple juice, is a favorite sweetener in Canada and the United States, but this time it wasn’t poured into ice cream or pie, at all.
In the Alps, Michigan, USA, two weeks ago, a couple of strangers got into an argument in the parking lot of a store. After shopping, the lady who wanted to get away was annoyingly surprised: she gave up her car.
I suspected it might have something to do with trouble, so I called the police. The folks at Michigan State Highway Police noticed a “sticky, maple syrup-like smell” on the car’s tank cap, so a solution was actually possible.
The vehicle was towed to a service station where the mechanic found a “sticky trout” in the bottom of the tank that was clogging the fuel pump.
Alpine police also arrested a man who chose a strange method of revenge, Jeremy Fisher, who was then accused of damaging private property worth over $1,000 – the repair exceeded the amount (365,000 Swiss francs at today’s exchange rate).
The avenger will surely regret not pouring maple syrup into something cryptic, as they could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to three times the damage, up to $10,000.
