Kelowna is expected to take home the 2025 Brier Friday award
It looks like Kelowna will get the Montana Brier it lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials with Curling Canada will be in Kelowna on Friday for what is being called an “important announcement about the sport of curling and the city of Kelowna.”
They are expected to give Kelowna the 2025 Brier Award.
The city was scheduled to host the Brier in 2021, but the event was moved to a “hub bubble” in Calgary due to the pandemic.
The city has said on numerous occasions that it is working with Curling Canada to secure a future date.
She was looking to secure the prestigious 2025 event, the last Brier tournament before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
Thunder Bay, Ontario. They were awarded the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts earlier this month after two previous attempts to hold the event in their city were affected by COVID-19.
They lost the 2021 Scotties tournament to the Calgary bubble while the 2022 tournament, also in Thunder Bay, was held in an empty arena due to rising coronavirus cases.
The announcement comes as teams from a number of Pacific Rim countries including Canada descend on Kelowna for the tournament Continental Curling Championship at the Kelowna Curling Club from Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Brier champion Brad Gushue will represent Canada in the men’s event that will determine which countries are able to compete at the 2024 world championships.
An announcement will be made Friday at the Grand Okanagan Delta Resort.
