Netflix's film division is being reorganized under new film director Dan Lin.
While around 15 staff have been made redundant, the reorganization does not represent a reduction in strength – Lin will replace departing executives in the coming weeks as part of his new vision for his group, which will now be segmented by gender.
This new system includes Ori Marmor, who will oversee action, fantasy, horror and sci-fi films, Kira Goldberg, who will handle dramas, thrillers and family films, Nija Kuykendall on religious projects, holiday and youth projects, and Jason. Young people supervise comedies and rom-coms.
Lin took his desk in front of the streamer only a week ago, but he's had nearly a month to think about what the process should look like. He was hired as the new head of film in February, replacing Scott Stuber and reporting to chief content officer Bela Bajaria.
Lin and Netflix have previously worked together on “The Two Popes” and the live-action series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Lin is best known for producing the “Lego” film series, an adaptation of Stephen King's “It” and the “Aladdin” remake directed by Andy Muschietti through his production company Rideback.
“Although I have been approached many times during my past 15 years at Rideback, I never imagined leaving until Bella reached out to me with this amazing opportunity,” Lane said in a statement upon accepting the job. “My ambition at Rideback has always been to make films with global appeal and universal themes, and there's no better place to do that than with the company with the largest global audience. It's a fantastic opportunity that I couldn't say no to.”
