Among other things, Judit Sulyuk, Associate Professor at the Balaton Institute for Tourism Research at the University of Pannonia, spoke about this at a recent conference in Badaksonitomag.
However, in- and out-of-season inequality is a problem for tour operators and commercial accommodation in many places. The available workforce is usually low in the summer and the number of jobs decreases in the winter, in line with the trend of tourism. However, there has been some shift due to attempts to extend the season (events, attractions, wine and gastronomy) and the increasing demand for the natural environment. This in itself is welcome, since outdoor activities are also becoming more valuable, the time you spend in nature has increased.
There has also been a lot of development in the field of health tourism in recent years, and modern technology and digitalization can also be attractive to guests, as it helps in planning, guiding and guiding.
Judit Sulyuk added that in recent years, the previously usual classic way of thinking has expanded, with more target groups and more actors on the color palette.
An increasing number of daily travelers and visitors are emerging, who do not necessarily provide measurable data in terms of accommodation, but who use the services and have a strong impact on the sector.
Covid also reversed the previous trend, as at that time local residents and second home owners appeared, and during this period, many were already able to find out where they lived. Of course, the leisure consumption of local residents is different from that of tourists, because they do not necessarily go everywhere and do not use services in the same way as those who arrive from afar. On the other hand, those with an increasingly prominent second home are more like tourists in this respect and enhance the service nature of the place.
Judit Sulyuk also spoke about the characteristics of travelers to Lake Balaton. Surveys show that most people come to the lake for a waterfront trip, but many come for wine tasting, but respondents also mentioned walking, swimming and sightseeing, as well as tasting local food, seeing the nearest viewing point, hiking and boating. was included.
He noted that transportation is a problem, which is sometimes difficult due to the large number of cars, and a related survey also showed that almost everyone would improve parking. Unfortunately, the effect of the pandemic is that everyone is back in the car, and the demand for public transportation has fallen.
According to the participants, Lake Balaton is crowded and expensive.
