Throughout history, countless ships carrying priceless treasures have fallen victim to dangerous seas. In our article, we present the history of sunken ships that transported goods of exceptional value and disappeared forever at the bottom of the seas or oceans.
The exact location of the Flor de Mar carrack remains unknown
Flor de Mar, also known as Sea flowerIt was the largest ship in the Portuguese fleet at the beginning of the 16th century. In 1511, she was sent to sack Malacca, Malaysia, as a flagship with 400 men on board. The siege, which lasted for several days, ended with a complete Portuguese victory, as the ship was loaded with treasures of enormous value. The value of the loot is now estimated at about $2.6 billion, as the ship’s cargo consisted of a large amount of precious stones, 60 tons of gold, and exotic animals. However, the ship was hit by a storm off the coast of Sumatra and sank due to dangerous waves. Its exact location is still unknown. They were among the 400 crew members who managed to row the boats to shore, but most of them and their cargo were swallowed up by the sea forever.
