Not only is our country, the Carpathian Basin, an exceptionally large area geographically, biologists and researchers have already meticulously mapped its flora and fauna – however, a group of scientists has now discovered a previously unknown species while collecting specimens.
For now, the new animal species certainly won’t be a favorite among pet owners – the species identified in the latest belongs not to some cute Pannonian furry, but to the slender springtail family.

The new species was given the good name “Entomobrya arenaria,” and 8 specimens were immediately collected: 1 female and 7 males. The discovery was made in Volovaza, Pakse Keskun District. The creatures have to reach into their pockets if they need glasses, because they have 16 of them. Their body is orange and divided into a dark linear pattern, younger specimens are only pale yellow, their stripes are purple and smaller, and their size is very small: mature specimens are about 2.5 mm.
The organism tolerates drought very well, and according to researchers, it is one of the most dominant species in its area, similar to the species shown in the video below:
