Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced this week that he will run in the 2024 US presidential election, thereby challenging Donald Trump, his former mentor.
Even before the announcement, numerous polls were conducted of DeSantis’ chances of being elected, as he is arguably the second most popular and most influential politician in the Republican Party. Trump was expected to compete.

According to aggregate polls, now Trump will completely win the battle within the party, 54% of Republicans will vote for him, while DeSantis will win 20.7% of the vote.
The third most popular politician is Mike Pence, Trump’s former vice president, who has not yet announced his candidacy for the election, but will receive 5.1% of the vote, according to the total.
It is important to emphasize: the next election is scheduled for November 2024, that is, a year and a half later, but the Republican nominee is expected to be decided a few months earlier. Until then, it will be at least a year before it becomes clear who the party will delegate to Democratic President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, and a lot could still happen until then.
