Homegrown crowd champion Max Verstappen won the Dutch Grand Prix, and Fernando Alonso, returning to the podium from Canada, finished second in the eventful race. Third place went to the surprise man, Pierre Gasly – let’s see how they rate him after the win!
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 1st
“Wow! Today they didn’t make it easy for us because of that rain, but we made great decisions all along. I got goosebumps when I heard the Dutch national anthem. I’m so proud. Next week it will be clear if there will be a tenth victory. I’m enjoying this weekend now Of course, the pressure will be on us to perform, but now I’m very happy that I was able to win this race.”
Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) – 2nd place
“It was a very intense race. At the beginning it was raining and then I managed to be really fast. We might have stopped at the start to change a wheel a lap later than we should have, but that’s the case with a lot of people today. The car climbed and was very competitive and easy. Driving. In these conditions you always need a car you can trust,I got it today,I can really trust.I really enjoyed racing and thank you for the energy we brought here in Zandvoort. The atmosphere here is unique. Two years ago, when the race came back “I thought I wouldn’t be able to get a podium here. I couldn’t even think of such a thing, and that’s what I’m here for! It’s special to be able to share a podium with Max and Pierre. During the race, it was hard to focus and stay calm for so long.” “But like I said, this is a special place, so I tried to stay focused and it worked out. Congratulations Max! In the end I tried, and thought about trying to overtake Max, but I was like, ‘Maybe I left the lane,’ so I backed off.”
Pierre Gasly (Alpine) – 3rd place
“I’m incredibly happy! What a race it was! The break was very good, and it’s good to be able to rest a bit. The first year wasn’t easy. We tried to improve constantly and now we’re back with that momentum. I was third in the Spa sprint, but it wasn’t a real podium, but now I’m very happy, also because of the guys.At one point I was a little angry because I also had a five-second penalty, and when Sergio (Perez) did that too, I was like that And the result is the same. I was pushing really hard at the end, trying to stay in that five-second window. The race had many challenges throughout and it was very long. But I’m very happy, also because of the team!”
