Most of the money went to facilities. According to the Hungarian Olympic Committee, the increase in support was not accompanied by an increase in effectiveness.

Orbán's government has spent HUF 4.416 billion 210 million on sports since 2010, a total of 444.

In the past 14 years, according to the newspaper, 3,005 billion forints were spent on sports from the budget, and 1,411 billion forints were added to it through the Tau support system. The newspaper notes that this is the amount the government expects to receive from personal income tax this year.

Of this 4416.2 billion

  • HUF 258 billion was used to support competitive sports and preparation for the Olympics.
  • HUF 69.5 billion was spent on supplementary education funds,
  • The Hungarian Olympic Committee received approximately HUF 2.8 billion during the period examined,
  • HUF 48.9 billion was used to “support expenses related to the establishment of the academic system of the Olympic Sports Federations and the training of MLSZ substitutes” (the exact proportion received by the Olympic Sports Federations and MLSZ of this is not clear from the final accounts)
  • The hard-to-quantify “supporting tasks related to the implementation of sports development concepts” allocations allowed for $252 billion to be spent over 14 years.

The total amount is approximately HUF 633 billion, the rest of the money went to utilities, and significant amounts were spent, among other things, on appropriations such as the “Strategy for High-profile International Sporting Events”, which, according to 444, is also relatively difficult to quantify.

More money does not mean more efficiency, as the Hungarian Olympic Committee points out in its publication “Competitive Sports Strategy for Olympic Sports, 2022-2032”. It states that the distribution of funds is uneven, there is no follow-up and control, and there is no correction in case of fulfillment or non-fulfillment of obligations. According to the MOB, “All the setbacks have caused serious damage to Hungarian sports. Correcting these problems, making the funding system more transparent, plannable and predictable, and continuous monitoring and professional control of the use would lead to more efficient use even in the medium term, which could make competitive sports more successful.
