Electronic Arts says goodbye to more game servers

If you liked Crysis 3’s multiplayer mode, you still have a chance to play, but not for long.

Pure Xbox has discovered that multiplayer servers from Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, Dante’s Inferno, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be available during the year. Here’s the explanation from Electronic Arts’ Turn Off Online Services page: “Decisions to pull certain features or game modes for individual Electronic Arts games or to stop online services related to legacy EA games will never be easy. Our development teams and operations staff put their hearts in our games, Their features and gameplay are almost as good as the players, and it’s hard to see any of them retiring. As games are replaced by newer titles, the number of people still enjoying games that have been live for a while dwindles to an extent (usually less than 1% of all EA games across the Internet) where it is no longer possible to continue playing from behind – spectator actions involving the maintenance and operation of online services for such games

We are also committed to constantly updating and improving features and game modes to keep them in our games to keep the game exciting for as long as possible. Our commitment to great play sometimes means removing outdated features and game modes. Depending on the type of game and specific features that may no longer be supported, players may continue to use their inventory of virtual currency and/or in-game items regardless of whether the relevant in-game store is open and the game is open or still available – for such users Neo,” the publisher writes.
