According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in London on Sunday, a multi-stage preparedness system similar to the previous system, but enhanced in some elements, will come into effect in England after the current lockdown to curb the coronavirus epidemic early on. Dec.
A Downing Street spokesman said Prime Minister Boris Johnson convened an extraordinary cabinet meeting Sunday evening to finalize defense plans for the pre-Christmas period.
According to his office on Sunday, the idea is that more parts of the country will be covered at the highest level, that is, the most stringent level of the three-level preparedness system, and the measures required under each layer will also be strengthened.
It was known until now that the government’s scientific and health advisors did not consider the previous three-tiered alert system sufficient to curb the epidemic.
The three-stage alert system introduced in England in early autumn had the lowest average pandemic preparedness, followed by a high and then very high level, with increasingly stringent restrictions. Different scores are assigned to each part of the country depending on the local epidemic situation.
However, in response to constant urging from government advisers, Boris Johnson suspended the system after a few weeks and imposed uniform restrictions across England from November 5 to December 2.
Consequently, people who are currently living in England can only leave their homes for certain reasons. These include
- Providing medical care, basic necessities and medicines,
- Traveling for work is for those who cannot do their work from home, or do outdoor sports.
- In addition, everyone can meet only one person outside, not one under one roof, and those who do not live in the same house cannot visit each other in an apartment, not even family members.
- In addition, stores selling non-essential items, as well as bars, bars and restaurants have been closed.
Usually the restrictive measures taken by the British government only apply to England, as health regulations in the other UK countries – Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – are the responsibility of local governments.
This restriction will expire on December 2 and be replaced by the old, stricter, new multi-level readiness system.
