Veronica Nikos (76 kg) After Thursday’s bronze, two Hungarian girls were also interested in the medal match on Friday night at the U-20 World Wrestling Championships in Jordan. U-20 and U-17 European Championship Winner, U-17 World Champion Enikő Elekő (65 kg; Kőbánya SC-KIMBA) reached the final with three confident victories the day before, where India’s Antim was waiting for him. The Hungarian girl started slowly and patiently (0-1), then at the end of the first round she already had an advantage (2-1), and in the second three minutes she completely crushed her Asian opponent and finally confidently won a 9-2 victory.
With this, having won the 2021 U-17 World Cup and the European Championship, Elix has doubled up in global competitions this year as well: after winning the U-20 European Championship, he also won a gold medal in the age-group World Cup.
At the same time, Enikő’s name wasn’t the only Hungarian medalist on the day of the competition – that’s all Gerda Terek (Budapest Honvéd-KIMBA) took care of the 57kg field. The European U-20 and U-17 World Cup silver medalist beat Canada’s Gabriella Crouse 12-2 in the bronze medal match.
The Hungarian girls thus finished the WC with one gold, two bronzes and fifth place.
