The Ryzen 9 5900HX uses 8 cores and 16 threads in its operation for power-intensive multitasking like gaming, streaming, recording, and interacting with the crowd. AMD’s new Zen 3 architecture maximizes clock performance thanks to reduced cache latency and a number of other structural changes. Robust cooling and ROG’s power supply allow the 5900HX to run continuously up to 54W when the GPU is active and at 80W by itself. ROG CoolZone technology places strategic air vents around the WASD keys so user fingers stay cool and surface temperature can be reduced by up to 14% compared to other laptops.
The new Strix laptops also feature an improved touchpad with 85% more active area than last year’s models and made of frosted glass, combining smooth touch and precision for better user control. The touchpad becomes an illuminated touchpad for more intuitive input on 15.6-inch models that are too narrow to accommodate a dedicated numeric keypad.
Increased mobility
The 2021 Strix SCAR and Strix G Series models have up to 7% less floor space compared to last year’s models, making them easy to carry. The high capacity 90Wh battery enables longer operation than ever without mains connection, i.e. up to 12 hours of video playback.
Mobility is enhanced by support for fast charging, which allows the battery to reach 50% charge in just 33 minutes. Fast charging via USB Type-C is also supported, and is compatible with 100W adapters and portable charger. Type-C charging support is a novelty in the Strix series this year, giving users more flexibility when traveling.
