Exchange of expired documents: government windows will be open on weekends until the end of June

Except on the fiftieth day.

Deputy Minister of State for Regional Administration Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office said government windows will help in the exchange of identity documents that expire on June 30, with an exceptional opening at the end of the week. Catalin Ozak said that from the end of May to the end of June, all government windows in Budapest and Pest County, and more than 120 designated government windows in the countryside, receive customers on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the exception of Pentecost. .

These weekends can only be used to exchange expired ID cards, driver’s licenses and passports during emergencies.

You can learn more about open government windows at kormanyablak.hu, and according to Ozak, document exchange can be arranged in an average of 30-60 minutes, along with administration and waiting. The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that there is no need to make an appointment in advance, it is worth visiting the government window (either on weekends or on weekdays) even if the appointments are already full.

It is important to know that the renewal of a driver’s license can also be arranged online through the customer portal if the GP has issued a medical fitness license – in the case of expired driver’s licenses, it is not the government windows that need to be visited, but the technical examination stations.

On June 30, all documents that are automatically extended during the pandemic emergency will expire.
