Although he was unable to hold his starting position due to the safety car stage, Oscar Piastri achieved the best result of his career at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix. Despite this, the Australian rookie was disappointed with his fourth-place finish , as he could have reached the podium by force, but he expressed good feelings after winning.
“I am very satisfied with the fact that we deservedly achieved these results. It would be different if it was the result of a lucky coincidence, but today we were really the second force, which was a pleasant surprise,” the Australian assessed for Sky Sports F1.
“The safety car timing was unlucky for me, Lewis [Hamilton] Get a free tire change. In some ways it’s nice to be disappointed in fourth place, especially considering where we were at the start of the season. That’s why the team deserves a huge compliment, because the developments are going so well. It’s exciting times ahead and it’s great to be back on top.”
Although Piastri is sure McLaren is on the right track, he doesn’t rule out that they won’t continue to struggle on some tracks. “We will still have weaknesses,” the 22-year-old pilot added. “I think Silverstone was particularly suitable for our car, and although we ended up with a great result in Austria, we were stronger here. It’s good that we performed like this in two races in a row and we will try to match that in the future.”
“It’s a very happy moment for the team. McLaren got 30 points in their home weekend, despite having collected 29 in the previous nine holidays,” Piastri noted.
“It’s good to be back on top. We don’t want to be fifth among the manufacturers, because we will have a challenge for the lead. We still have a ways to go, but anything is possible if we keep having weekends like this in the future.”
