Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday that he will reconstitute the committee whose mission will be to investigate Russian influence-peddling. Formation of the committee a Reuters It represents a shift, as Tusk previously opposed.
Tusk justified the revival of the committee by saying that Warsaw is engaged in an intense campaign launched by Moscow to destabilize the country. Donald Tusk said in a press conference: “I issued instructions to form a committee to investigate Russian and Belarusian influence on the internal security and interests of the Republic of Poland in the period 2004-2024.” The head of military counterintelligence, General Jaroslaw Strozek, was appointed to head the committee.
Speaking to TVN24 on Monday, Tusk said that nine people had been arrested recently “in connection with acts of sabotage committed on behalf of the Russian services.”
He cited arson, attempted arson and beatings as examples, and said three people had been arrested overnight, adding that Polish police were investigating whether Russia had anything to do with the massive fire that occurred in a shopping center in Warsaw earlier this month.
