Unfortunately, the world did not turn upside down at the Fencing World Cup in Paris – it is true that the “turn upside down” should have been done by us Hungarians…
Because we knew that our women’s dagger team needed to do something special to have a chance to get the Paris quota, and although overcoming Germany to reach the quarter-finals was a beautiful achievement, the big shot had to be in the quarter-finals, specifically against the Italians, who top the world rankings. .
On the other hand, it is no coincidence that the Italians are classicists in fencing, especially in daggers, and they ran through the foursome of Kata Kondrich, Fanny Kreis, Dora Lobkowicz and Flora Pastor.
After that, the girls went on to beat Canada, but were never really successful against the USA, so the Hungarian women's Dagger team finished the World Cup in Paris in sixth place.
The men's team, composed of Daniel Dossa, Andras Nemeth, Gerjo Simes and Gergely Toth, took 10th place, and the boys were very close to the long-awaited big result of the Eighth Final: in front of the Olympic champions, the French, our team stood. Land for eight aces, in fact, Daniel Dossa ended with a 40:33 advantage on the last serve, and although he led to 43:38, Maxime Baute scored in the end, the home team won by 45:43.
