Ferenc Krausz has been elected Person of the Year 2023

In recognition of his outstanding scientific work and social activism, this year the public media awarded Nobel laureate Ferenc Krauss the Public Media Personality of the Year award – the Media Services Support Fund and Asset Management (MTVA) of MTI announced on Friday.

Ferenc Kraus has had a career rich in scientific achievements

As stated, the award, which was established in 2020, can be received by a person who has had a significant impact on society through his greatness and humanitarian achievements. Ferenc Kraus was born in Moore in 1962, graduated from the Department of Physics at ELTE in 1985, and received a diploma in electrical engineering from the University of Technology. He began his research at the Institute of Physics of the BME, and in 1991 he received his doctorate from the Vienna University of Technology.

Since 2003 he has been Director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Germany, and since 2004 he has been Head of the Department of Experimental Physics at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, and since 2019 he has been Head of the Department of Experimental Physics. Hungary-based molecular fingerprinting company, which aims to develop tests for early detection of diseases. Director General and Scientific Director of the Research Center (CMF).

Among other things, he was able to receive the Fejszál King and Wolf awards. On December 10 of this year in Stockholm, he received the most prestigious scientific award, the Nobel Prize.

The MTVA confirmed that the purpose of the award was established by public media in 2020

To draw attention to the personalities who enrich the world's Hungarians, their outstanding results and intellectual achievements.

They pointed out that in the year of its foundation, Catalin Carrico, the Nobel Prize-winning biologist and biochemist and Cecchini, received the award, based on whose patent one of the vaccines against Covid-19 was developed.

In 2021, Olympic, World and European Champion Aaron Szilagyi received the award in recognition of his outstanding performance in his profession and exemplary social responsibility, and last year, the designer of the Hungarian Music House, Japanese star architect Sou Fujimoto, was honored with the award. They added a Public Service Award for his exceptional work in Hungarian cultural life. It was noted in the announcement that Ferenc Kraus would personally accept the Public Media Personality of the Year award at a later date.
