Maranello Guard produced one of the weakest seasons in the history of last year: He finished only 6 in the complex leagueHowever, this year, he managed to improve his racing car significantly.
Thanks to this, Charles Leclerc was able to start from the second row at the season opener of the Bahrain Grand Prix, and finally finished in sixth place, while Carlos Sainz, his teammate, finished eighth. Ferrari thus finished fourth in the constructors’ race after the race.
“I think the realistic goal for this year will be to be directly behind Red Bull and Mercedes,” Charles Leclerc said at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix press conference on Thursday.
“I think it would be really difficult to fight them because we are so far away now. But we are in a fight with 4-5 other teams to get third in the designer. So it will be a close fight. But if we do everything right, it will be available.”
Like other teams Ferrari is also already working with steam power in the 2022 race carLeclerc says Scuderia is approaching the new era with the right spirit.
“I think the mentality is okay. I have no doubt about that and I think we are doing well.
“The beginning of 2020 was difficult when we had to discover the reality and understand that we are going backwards compared to 2019. But we went through the process correctly. Then we started the reconstruction work on the whole project and the mentality is correct.”
“I don’t think we’re so distracted by this year’s fighting, the struggle for third place. Everyone realizes that we can gain more by getting ready for 2022, as new cars will be here for many years after 2022.”
