Fidesz has called on several parties to form a new European parliamentary group, it has been learned from several sources People's word. According to one of the newspaper’s insiders, the idea for the faction came from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Euronews correspondent Jorge Liborero reports similar information Posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Based on information from Nepzava's correspondent in Brussels, Katalin Halmai, they can negotiate for the new faction with parties such as:
- the Czech organization Anu, which recently left the liberals (under investigation for a joint conference with Viktor Orbán);
- Slovakian Samir, arrested among the socialists;
- Poland's Law and Justice party (PiS), which is in the eurosceptic European Council;
- The optimistic founders are calling on the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), part of the center-right European People's Party, to join the faction.
In the case of the latter, the newspaper points out that one of its members was elected vice-chairman of the People's Party group last week, so there is not much chance that they will stand up and side with the Visegradians.
However, according to Nepszava's sources, there may be enough reserves among the independents in the European Parliament who will join the new formation. Establishing a new faction requires at least 23 representatives from at least seven countries. Based on data updated by the European Parliament on Wednesday (along with the 10-member Fidesz party and the Kurdish National Party that recently left the People's Party), there are a total of 87 people who are either independent or have joined the body as newcomers, and have not yet joined it. Know where they will sit.
Romana Tomek, representative of the Social Democratic Party in the European Parliament, described the report as “fake news.” On XHe said: They will remain in the People's Party now and in the future. Liborero on the other hand He answered withThe negotiations are not over yet. Nebzava's correspondent also noted: He did not write that the SDS would join, but that he would be invited.
According to the newspaper, the Law and Justice Party – along with the far-right Identity and Democracy Party – I submitted an application, so that before the first meeting of the EP, groups can register not until July 4, but until July 8, if they want to participate together. (It is possible to create a faction at any time, but it is useful to be prepared with it before the founding meeting, among other things, because important positions within the European Parliament are allocated there.)
Moreover, this is not the only strange thing about PiS. His faction, ECR, was to hold its founding meeting on Tuesday, to which Telex was also to report. However, the quick press conference that was promised at around 12 o'clock in front of the meeting room designated between 11 and 1 o'clock was missed, and the hall was almost completely empty due to the postponement of the meeting. The head of the faction's press team, Michael Strauss, first wrote in response to our question that the meeting had been moved to between 6:30 and 7:30, but a short press conference would be held around 7:30. Ultimately, that too was missed, and Strauss announced it would be postponed to 3 July (i.e. the day before the current deadline).
“More time is needed for internal technical negotiations,” he wrote, without specifying exactly what that meant. The new members have already been announced, and before the meeting, according to our information, co-chair Nicola Procaccini was the only one nominated to lead the group again.
Politico journalist Eddie Wax knows about the power relationships within the group The discussion continued. According to Nebzava, PiS representatives are divided over the group's direction. Many people are concerned that Giorgia Meloni, head of the ECR party family, has concluded an agreement with the Christian Democrats and is deviating from the political path followed by the group, and also points to repeated postponements.
As we wrote previously, Orban last December described it as only a matter of time before they join the European Council for reform. After her meeting with the head of the party family, Giorgia Meloni, on Monday last week, the newspaper Corriere della Sera wrote the following: Meloni rejected the idea of Fidesz joining the European Council, because it might have more disadvantages than advantages. Platoon after one day List of new members announcedFidesz was not among them, but there were representatives of the Association for the Unification of Romanians (AUR). In response, faction leader Matej Kocsis stated that “the staunchly anti-Hungarian Romanian AUR has been accepted into the ECR faction. There is no doubt that Fidesz would sit in a group with such a party in the European Parliament!”.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that another new group could be formed in the meantime, involving Mi Hazanek and the AfD. According to the latest information from Euractiv and Press, the numerical conditions for this already exist, but the AfD has put its plan on hold for the time being because it fears that some of its future partners may be too extreme.
