Local governments can apply for a total of 5 billion HUF. In Somoji, the needy in 223 settlements receive firewood.
Also this year, local governments can apply for a budget of five billion forints in the social fuel program, and 2,351 settlements and 223 Somogy across the country took advantage of the opportunity, the local government secretary for the Ministry of the Interior explained on Wednesday. The deadline for applications was August 31, and those in need should receive support by February 15, said Tibor Pogácsás.
In 2011, the Minister of the Interior, Sindoor Pinter, decided that the ministry would provide fuel subsidies from its own framework to those in need who live in settlements with a population of less than 5,000. This year, the secretary of state said 2,351 settlements have applied for hardwood, 217 lignite and 43 softwood.
Peter Zambo, Minister of State for Forests in the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke about the fact that the supply of fuelwood in Hungary is guaranteed for the 2021-2022 heating season. Three million cubic meters of firewood produced in the country’s two million hectares of forest are available to residents.
He added: The stock of living trees in the forests of Hungary is 400 million cubic meters, and it is growing at a rate of 13 million cubic meters annually, of which 5-5.5 million cubic meters are produced annually.
