Five Canadians have been appointed to ITF panels and committees for 2024-25

The Canadian Tennis Association is recognized globally for assisting the ITF in key areas of tennis

Five Canadians have been globally recognized with appointments to the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) 2024-25 committees and commissions, as announced in December.

More than 230 representatives from 68 different countries have been appointed to serve on a range of ITF panels, committees and working groups with the aim of assisting the ITF in key areas of the sport.

Jennifer Bishop, former chair of Tennis Canada’s governing body, has once again been appointed to the ITF’s Davis Cup committee. She previously became the second woman in history to be appointed to the committee for the 2022-23 period. In appointments for 2024-2025, a record 35 per cent are women, representing a 7.4 per cent increase over the previous appointment cycle.

“Canada continues to make tremendous strides in tennis, as evidenced by recent victories at the Billie Jean King Cup, Davis Cup and US Open. Former Tennis Canada Board of Directors member Jack Graham has been appointed Chair of the Constitutional Committee and will also serve on the Governance Structure Task Force and the Development Advisory Group. Graham was recently re-elected to the ITF Board of Directors for a sixth consecutive term.

Peter Cruyt, current Chairman of Tennis Canada, will participate in the strategic working group. Janet Petras, Tennis Canada’s Director of High Performance Programs and Management, will participate in the Junior Committee while Irwin Tobias, Tennis Canada’s Senior Advisor for Tennis and Events, has been named to the Masters Committee.

Members of each panel, committee and task force are expected to fulfill their duties across the ITF core pillars of governance, sport and participation in a manner consistent with the ITF values ​​of good governance, integrity, inclusion, innovation and collaboration.

ITF President David Haggerty said: “2024-25 will be an important period for the ITF as we advance the strategic priorities of ITF2024+4, continue to reform our governance, and strive towards a significant increase in participation in tennis.” “The committees play a vital role, and the majority of their members are volunteers, who provide their expertise and essential resources to achieve our goals and meet the challenges ahead.”
