Two Hungarian fencers, Flora Pastor and Daniel Dossa, also won an Olympic quota at the Grand Prix in Washington.
Before the final race of the one-year qualifying period, Dossa was competing with Czech Aleksandar Chobinić and Spaniard Carlos Lavador for one of the two European places. The difference between them was a few points, but Dosa was in the most favorable position, and in the competition in the United States, in addition to the Hungarian fencer, the Czech also reached the top 32, while the Spaniard lost.
In the men's dagger, the Hungarian team was unable to win the right to participate in Paris. In individual qualification, there are ten places for each discipline among fencers from countries that did not obtain a group quota. Representatives of the countries qualifying for the teams will be removed from the classification list, and based on the new system, fencers from Europe, the Asia and Oceania regions will be added – but not more than one for each country – and one competitor from America and Africa. Enter the specified field. One of the two European places will be a dosa place.
The remaining four spots for each discipline in the district qualifying competitions will be filled by one person each. In the latest competitions, only representatives of countries that have not yet obtained a single quota in the specified specialty can participate.
Pásztor won his first ace in the main draw of the Washington Dagger Grand Prix, just like Briton Carolina Stutchbury, with whom he was competing for one of the singles places in Europe. In the second round, the Hungarian fencer lost 15-11 to Italian world champion Alice Volpi, but the competition was over at that point for Statchbury as well, so Pastor kept his British opponent behind him. The first European share went to a German fencer.
The Washington Grand Prix is the last race in the one-year qualifying period for the discipline. In women's dagger, the Hungarian national team was unable to fight for the right to participate in Paris. The eight qualifying teams with three fencers occupy 24 places in the individual Olympic field, and in the individual qualifiers, ten places are available for each discipline among fencers from countries that did not obtain a group quota.
