The former Brazilian president was taken to a hospital near Orlando with stomach pains, just a day after supporters stormed government buildings in Brazil a week after the inauguration of new President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The BBC reported that former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was taken to a hospital near Orlando with abdominal pain on Monday.

She is Bolsonaro’s wife, Michele Bolsonaro on instagram She confirmed that her husband was under observation due to abdominal complaints.

British Public Broadcasting reports that Bolsonaro has suffered occasional abdominal pain since he was attacked and stabbed by a man at an election event in 2018. A source close to the family told Reuters news agency that the former president’s condition was “no cause for concern.”

Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States about 10 days ago. The politician, also dubbed “Tropical Trump,” refused to attend the inauguration of the new president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, last week.

The incident occurred just a day after thousands of Bolsonaro supporters, unable to accept the results of October’s presidential elections, just one day later, Nepszava reported, stormed government buildings in protest on Sunday afternoon in the capital, Brasilia City. More than 300 people were arrested in an incident eerily similar to the US Capitol siege on January 6, 2021, and even Bolsonaro himself condemned what happened.

Meanwhile, some members of his own party are putting increasing pressure on US President Joe Biden to fire Bolsonaro. Democratic Representative Joaquín Castro told CNN that “the United States should not be a haven for an authoritarian ‘who encouraged terrorism’ in Brazil.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, another Democratic lawmaker, called on the US on Twitter to stop the practice of “granting sanctuary to Bolsonaro in Florida.” US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Monday that the United States “has not yet received a formal request from the Brazilian government regarding Bolsonaro’s visa.”
