MÁV ordered the blocking of vacancies. This means that from now on, new people can be appointed to empty and unoccupied positions only in specially justified cases, and with special authorization, Telex informed. In response to Telex's question, MÁV confirmed this
“In order to implement effective staff management, filling vacant positions is now subject to unique licensing procedures.”
MÁV emphasized that there is no general freeze on the number of employees in the company, “several positions are being appointed in companies affiliated with the MÁV-VOLÁN group, and the continuous operation of the public service provider is guaranteed.”
Based on the internal message obtained by Telex, the restriction applies to all vacant positions, meaning recruitment can begin to fill them. “In the case of positions that become vacant during operation, recruitment and creation of positions can only take place in specially justified cases, after the approval of the Executive Vice President of Human Resources,” the letter said.
The restriction may last until at least July 31.
“In the MÁV-Volán Group, the ratio of vacant positions compared to the total number of employees is only about 3 percent. The number of vacant positions in MÁV-START is about 280,” MÁV's press department answered Telex's questions at the beginning of January. The president of the Szombathely branch of the railway workers' union, Tamas Nemeth, saw the situation even bleaker, telling Telex that “I cannot name a regional directorate where there is not a shortage of people, often in such a way that the safety of the work is put at risk.” “It's the people who are really dedicated and loyal to the railways that stay,” he said. We wrote more about the railway shortage in this article.
