Fucsovics defeated the 29th ranked player in the world

Marton Vosovic came from a group down and reached the round of 16 at the €795,000 (HUF 294 million) men’s grass tennis tournament in Stuttgart.

The 83rd seed in the world rankings – who reached the main draw of the qualifiers – met Canadian Denis Shapovalov (29) in the opening round on Tuesday, for the third time in his career. The Hungarian player won the Australian Open three years ago, and his opponent won last year in Dubai.

In their match in Stuttgart, although Vosović had a total of three break opportunities in Shapovalov’s first two service matches, he was unable to capitalize on them and, after dropping serve when the Canadian was leading 2:1, fell behind afterwards. 44 minutes.

The second set was already going to the taste of the tennis player from Nyíregyháza, because in addition to breaking with a margin of 3: 2, he lost only five games with the ball after his own serve, so he equalized in just over half an hour.

At the final stage, Fucsovic started more confidently, trailing 5: 1, but at that time left three match points unused. This gave Shapovalov new impetus, he caught up to 5:4, then led 30-0 on Fukovich’s serve, but the Hungarian got his turn together and ended the two-hour match with four straight points.

Vosovic will meet Chinese Wu Jiping (64th) in the round of 16 on Thursday, who beat Australian Nick Kyrgios, who returned to this tournament after a long injury, in two sets.

First round (to reach the round of 16):
Martin Vosovic – Denis Shapovalov (Canadian) 3:6, 6:3, 6:4
