Since Vienna wants to become climate-neutral by 2040, the range of areas where individual gas heating in newly built homes is already prohibited has already been expanded. The Austrian city administration wrote in a statement that each region will soon have an energy planning plan. Early in 2019, this was achieved in eight districts, where residential buildings that produce hot water and heating can usually be delivered using efficient heating systems based on renewable energy sources rather than natural gas. These areas are organized by the regions in the Energy Management Plan.
The Vienna General Assembly has now expanded the commitments in the Energy Management Plan to five more regions. In other words, from now on, there will be parts of downtown, Favoriten, Siemering, Heitzing and Laising, where it is no longer possible to heat natural gas or produce hot water in newly built apartments.
The goal is clear: we want to be independent of natural gas by 2040. It is especially clear now how important it is to end our dependence on fossil fuels from abroad. The best solution against dependence and high heating costs is to switch to renewable energy, Jürgen Chernorsky, Climate Adviser in Vienna, said about the General Assembly resolution.
The Austrian capital plans to introduce an energy management plan in all provinces soon, with the next six already in preparation.
Gas has already been banned in the world
In a recent study by the International Energy Agency, the organization identifies 400 steps it says it can take to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. According to the organization, new fossil fuel boilers should not be sold from 2025 onwards. In other words, in 3 and a half years, no gas boiler, no gas distributor for the apartment, no condenser The boiler cannot be turned on Because a gas boiler emits a lot of harmful substances during its operation.
It is said that climate change can not only be an effective step in reducing climate change, but gas appliances are not good for people’s health either: inhaling combustion products in closed homes is harmful to the body.
In the United States, several municipalities have already decided In New York from December 2023 From now on, it will not be possible to deliver a new house of less than seven floors in which natural gas is burned (on the stove and / or in the boiler). The gas embargo in California’s liberal settlements began years ago and has now developed into a serious movement, with Boston, Denver and Seattle on a similar path.
European Union Fit for 55 The Climate Protection Plan is also trying to dismantle gas stoves and gas heating, and instead supports the spread of more environmentally friendly technologies. The European Parliament and the European Commission are also working on programs that can assist and financially promote energy efficiency improvements in buildings.
The EU’s plans may soon have an impact on conditions in Hungary as well.
